The Secret and It's Misinterpretations - The Updated Version

The Secret and It's Misinterpretations The Updated Version

I love the movie The Secret... As a trainer, I refer to and recommend it frequently.

Inevitably... someone complains that it does not work. Each time I hear this complaint, it's the same misinterpretation, and I hear things like:

"I've been focusing on a new car and nothing!"Misinterpretations
"I've been focusing on people being nicer to me and nothing has changed."

It's an easy mistake to make... and it's based on the idea stated in The Secret that thoughts become things... which is absolutely true! However it is the feeling that the thought creates that has the power.

So obsessing about one thing like a new car will not create a car... especially if this is stressful in any way and only reminds you of what you do not yet possess.

The Law of Attraction states like attracts like... which literally means like energy attracts like energy.

So the question becomes... what energy or state of being is being expressed when you focus on something? That state of being acts as a magnet, or repellent, to the very thing you're trying to attract!

The moment you think the object or car will bring you happiness, you have just accepted and declared that you are not as happy as you could be now without that car... so you emanate and attract as not as happy as you could be. So what shows up for you now will only reinforce not as happy and nothing changes.

This does not mean you can't want a car... wanting it is the first step... but it is not the only step.

How you get the car is by understanding that attracting a car has to do with the feeling the car provides. When you see yourself enjoying this new car, how do you feel?

Now use your mind and focus on the feeling.

Every experience has at least two sides to it: a physical and an emotional aspect... the physical is what is or what is happening... while the emotional is how you feel about it. They are intimately connected and work synergistically... so by feeling the feeling, you attract or create the physical match... and that physical match could be an infinite variety of things that you have linked to that feeling.

So to streamline the process as directed in The Secret:

  1. Ask - Ask for what you want and see if you feel a sense of lack. Now notice if you can choose a different energy or state of being. Most get stuck here... "I don't have it, but I want it."
  2. Believe - Usually with this, people just believe it will come if you do/think x, y and z. But this belief is only mental and the attaining of what you want is stuck in the future. Feeling it is True Now would be more effective. There is no tomorrow reality--only now. If you believe it will happen later or in the future, you are declaring it is not happening now.
  3. Receive - The tricky part here is the assumption that it will show up exactly how we pictured it and if it does not, there is something wrong... wrong with the law... wrong with me... wrong with the world. Then we're caught in a vicious cycle of experiencing lack, and we sabotage or dissolve what we wanted in the first place. It become like a mirage. Receiving is really about openness, and the ability to say yes; because even though man wants the apple, the universe wants to give him the orchard.

The critical issue here is to not externalize the source of our happiness... and to let go of the idea that an object or person or anything--other than ourselves--can create our happiness (or misery). Things can influence us, but we ultimately choose how we relate to them and our state of being around it.

Those who get caught up in externalizing happiness become slaves to the object they've empowered such as money, affection, or that car... none of which have any real power unless we give our power away...

We all get distracted and eventually think that happiness (or misery) come from the outside... it's only logical because of how our senses are designed... we see out... like the Buddhist say, a knife can't cut itself... we are our own blind spot so we naturally externalize our feelings.

The key here is awareness... constant awareness... slowing down, deliberate breathing, and meditation all help this awareness.

Here's a good mantra... happiness is an inside job.

Remember to feel the feelings your desires provide... that is the secret to the law of attraction.

Direction, Goals, and Hitting A Bulls-Eye with Your Life

Direction, Goals,
and
Hitting A Bulls-Eye
with
Your Life

One of the most common question I get is, "Sifu, How do I make what I want happen?" Well... What I usually say is, "It's much harder to hit your target, much less the bulls-eye, if you have no idea where that target is." And like usual the reply is,"Huh?"

Ok, it's like this... Let's assume you kinda know what you want, and if you don't, take a look at my post: 'Writing Down Your Goals and Getting Want You Want...' So, from there, just for a moment let's imagine your goal is a target, a target for you life. This target can be big, small, inconsequential, or very important, but a target none the less. And just like everyone else all you want is to get somewhere near this target and if you are lucky every once in a while you hit the bulls-eye. But that just doesn't seem to happen very often, hitting the bulls-eye or even the target most of the time.

So the question arises,"What's up? All that energy and planning and I'm nowhere nearer to my target!" Then generally everyone starts blaming the target, or the darts, or even the concept of making a target in the first place. You come to the conclusion that it's all shit, and useless, right?

No...

The problem I usually see is, with how most people hit the target, NOT the target itself. And let me tell you I'm just as guilty of this as anyone. This is what is usually going on... We all have some sort of target, far away, close, big, or small, whatever... A target. But here's the rub, We are under the illusion that we kinda know where the target is or if we look at it every once in a while we can hit it. Think about this... If you actually tried this in the real world...

Imagine you're in a bar playing darts and you see the dart board on the wall, you aim once, look away, and start throwing. Would you hit any bulls-eyes? Would you even get anywhere near the dart board? Well, maybe the first shot would, but what about the fiftieth? Whoa! Your friends better take cover. And if we take this little story even further, instead of just taking one look at the dart board, you close your eyes and say,"God... if it was meant to be, let this once be the one. Guide my hand with my eyes closed. I trust you. So pleease let me make this one!" And then you let it fly... WITH YOUR FUCKING EYES CLOSED! But the insanity is, that when you open your eyes and you've hit nowhere near the board you're actually disappointed with the outcome.

This is when the blaming starts, and you start saying to yourself, "There must be something wrong with my darts!"- "The target is in the wrong place."- "I'm too far away."- "It's too far away."- "I didn't really try." -"Something was in my way"- " I suck! I can't do this! I'll never be able to do this."

The crazy part is for fuck's sake all you would have to do is open your fucking eyes and aim!

This is what I find most of us are doing and why most of us feel we are having a hard time getting what we want and attaining our goals. All we have to do is keep our eyes on the target and we will naturally land somewhere around the bulls-eye eventually. But keep in mind, just like darts, the more you practice everyday the faster you will easily hit your mark.

It's about keeping your eyes open and consistency, not intensity.

Guidance vs Choice

Guidance
vs
Choice

We all get guidance… we are receptors of data, feelings, hunches, and intuition. It’s great when we know something. Most of us have been working to trust this guidance… trust our higher self. Some people literary hear this guidance and for others… it is much more subtle.

The question then becomes -- is our higher self always right?

Yes and no.

It is right, now - in this moment, but depending on your choices from that moment on, the outcome can change.

You have the choice to do whatever you want, guidance or not. We all receive guidance in order to make a choice. Guidance is not LAW; it is guidance… there to direct us… the guidance is the pathway not the destination or outcome. Guidance is not GOD; it is you expressing God. Guidance is also relative to the question that was asked… when we ask a different question, we get a different answer. In fact, most of us sabotage ourselves by asking loaded questions that are sometimes negative and set up for disappointment or to reinforce our judgment of self. Like if you asked your higher self, "Will I get raise at work?" And the immediate answer is "No." A common reaction can be, “See my life sucks, I never get what I want, and nothing ever works out!

But, what if you just started this job a week ago? Of course you are not going to get a raise right this moment. But does this mean you will never get a raise? Should quit because there is no future there?

No, absolutely not. It just means you are not going to get a raise RIGHT NOW. If you ask, "How can I a get a raise a soon as possible?" or “What needs to happen for me to get a raise in two weeks?”… you would get a whole lot of different answers.

This is how we manipulates our higher self and set our selves up to fail… by asking loaded questions that the answers reinforce the status quo and confirms our own self-doubt.

The key here is how you ask the question… less "yes or no" and more "how to questions". But at the end of the day, it is our choices that decide our future and nothing else.

It is not Guidance vs. Choice… it is Guidance and Choice.

There are no absolutes, all things change. What is true today can be false tomorrow; it depends on the current choice.

Remember nothing is impossible in an infinite Universe. If you want it, you can have it. The only question is: who are you willing to BE to get it?

Be, Do, Have… is a favorite mantra here at Unreasonable Happiness .

The Secret to Amazing Sex and Attraction Forever!

Listen How Now:

The quality of your sex is directly proportional to the attraction you and your partner experience.

So what is attraction? Attraction is the interplay of contrast. It is the negative to the positive, the up to the down, the in to the out, and the male to the female. All of these things are magnetically attracted to each other. The union of that contrast in people is sex. The more the contrast the better the spark, or attraction, and the more intense the exchange of energy.

The key to taking advantage of this process is understanding where you are on the scale of male to female, and where on that scale you are relative to your partner. Your partner also needs to know the same understanding relative to you. In this way if you want to increase and sustain attraction - that magnetic spark - you want to realize more of that part of you that is polarized to the major part of your partner. The attraction is about polarization and flow of energy from one contrast to another. The more feminine your partner is the more masculine you want to be to create that attractive spark and visa versa. In fact, the thing that attracts you and your partner - magnetism this principle of attraction - is what the entire universe runs off of.

The question arises; "Is this how you have to be all the time towards your partner, especially if this is not necessarily your true nature?"

No, only when you want to create this attractive spark and want to initiate the flow of energy. This is your choice.

The other question that inevitably comes up is: ”Ok, so I have to be more masculine or feminine depending on my partner to create that spark. Then what exactly does being masculine or feminine mean? I mean other than the obvious anatomical stuff?”

Well, masculine and feminine have less to do with your physiology than it does with your energetic attitude. Understand that women can be more masculine than some men and visa versa.

What are those tendencies that delineate masculine (below M) from feminine (below F)? Here are some examples:

M: Fixed ----------------------F: Fluid
M: Grows by challenge-------F: Grows by praise
M: Directed--------------------F: Both/Diffused
M: Analytical------------------F: Intuitive
M: Angular--------------------F: Curved
M: Sharp----------------------F: Soft
M: Focused-------------------F: Infinite
M: Consciousness------------F: Life force/Nature
M: Desires trust--------------F: Desires love
M: Purpose driven-----------F: Devotion
M: Past driven ---------------F: Present driven
M: Release from constraint--F: Unity with everything
M: The warrior---------------F: The goddess

These are just some concepts that relate to male and female energy; If you want more try reading some of the works of David Deida, Alison Armstrong, or Satyen Raja.

After understanding the differences, next you want to identify which set is closest to you natural tendencies, and when you want that attractive spark you must then accentuate those tendencies. This will attract the most compatible partner; someone perfectly designed to satisfy all your more interesting quirks. And if you are with someone already these concepts will take your relationship to the next level.

Realistically, all you have to do to totally integrate these concepts is to pick one or two of the tendencies that are your weakest and work on then until they are naturally at the level you want them. Then just pick one or two more and keep on going. It saved my marriage.

Afraid of Your Full Potential?

Q: ...My lack of preparation and my procrastination at times is making me think that, possibly, I fear my own power... Why would I be afraid of the full potential of my own power?

A: We've all rubbed up against this one in someway at some point... though it seems to make no sense while we're in it... confusion associated with fear of power, which is actually fear of the unknown...

Evolutionary wise, as human beings, we come to perceive safety and security as consistency... keeping things the same.

As soft fleshy mammals, that are not as strong or fast as... let's say... a lion, we have not been on top of the food chain for very long. We did not survive thanks to our strength or powerful claws... we survived thanks to our brains and their ability to perceive, avoid, and overcome danger... our brains don't fully get that we are not living in the bush anymore... to our survival brains there is no difference in the danger the businessman on Wall Street and the prehistoric bushman on the plains of Africa faced... so let's go back in time and consider what kept prehistoric man alive and the cautious behavior we've inherited.

There are two cavemen: Ed & Sam... The adventurous thrill-seeking change-loving "Crazy Eddy" does not stick around the cave where it is warm and lion free... He likes taking risks and at a time when a hangnail can kill you... that's not so good. Ed thinks he is the king of the jungle and can master anything... he's fearless so we wonders around far beyond their lands, taunting the wildlife, trusting everything works out... and soon ends up a lion's main course.

Then there's "Safety First Sam" who is way boring according to today's standards... he does not step off the path, does not travel alone, does not go anywhere or do anything that has not been done before... plus he's very superstitious and gets very nervous with anything new because he thinks it will kill him... like it did Crazy Eddy.

Although not high on the fun meter, Sam got to procreate and pass on his genes and traits to us... as well as inspired a community of Safety First Sams and Crazy Eddy Bashers so that no other tribe member would follow in Crazy Eddy's footsteps.

So you see all our brains, families, communities, and governments are running the Safety First Sam model, which really means: change = death.

But now, we're at the top of the food chain... and our biology has not caught up to our environment... our operating software has not been upgraded so we're still caveman with lots of stuff.

So it's not that we're afraid of our own power or potential, we're still just afraid of the unknown... which use to kill us and is now our opportunity for expansion and fulfillment.
We inherently want to keep things the same so we procrastinate and prevent ourselves from moving beyond our comfort zone... most will rather do the same hurtful behavior like eat poorly, not open their mail, not know their bank balance, stay with abusive partners, or not leave a bad job... instead of doing something different and positive, disturbing the status quo, and making them change... even when the status quo sucks.

This fear of the unknown is related to fear of power, success, and failure...

Fear of power is due to the societal fear of change which breeds mediocrity and the social pressures to keep things the same... so power which is the ability to enact change... is taught to be feared and ignored... though everyone wants it, it is thought to come with the price of isolation from the group... hence it shows up as procrastination and stagnation.

Fear of success is can be due to being overwhelmed... overwhelmed with more... more options... more responsibility... and the fear that the success may go away so it's better to not go there and spare the disappointment... and rejection from the group.

Fear of failure is also about managing disappointment because trying and failing feels worse than not trying at all... not being prepared gives us an understandable scapegoat so it feels better and others can sympathize.
Procrastination, avoidance of power, glory, and potential also divert fault... and displace responsibility... giving us an external focal point so we have an excuse for all the times we hurt our selves, we hurt others, and expressed our dark side... it is too painful to admit we have control over our lives and everything in it... all of it... the good, the bad, and the ugly.

To transcend the fear of our full potential, we must first realize that power and being an individual do not contradict or detract from connecting with our fellow man... in fact, power and being an individual is what connects us to each other... it's one of the many things we have in common... the universal constant is unique expansion and creation.

The choice is not to either be powerful and alone or connected and mediocre... the real choice is to create, express yourself, and revel in your individuality... your glory... your power.
So be patient and gentle with yourself... your humanness... and specially your caveman-ness. It's not about suppressing these things... it's about accepting them (all of them... Dark Sides Rule!)... harmonizing with them... and, ideally, using them... and using them well... deliberately, purposefully, and ultimately--joyfully!
